3rd Annual Global Media Forum

Header

Media representatives are welcomed to attend the 3rd Annual Global Media Forum in lead up to World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) 2023 to have a direct interface with senior experts from the quadripartite organizations that have united to address Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) – one of the top 10 threats to global health security. These quadripartite organizations include: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH, founded as OIE).

AMR occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial agents. As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents become ineffective and infections become difficult or impossible to treat, increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death. Drug-resistant infections are threatening not only human health but also animal health, livelihoods, and food safety worldwide. The multisectoral One Health approach, which recognises the interconnection between people, animals, plants and environment, is key to tackling AMR.

The theme of World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW 2023: 18-24 November 2023) is “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together” (download the campaign guide). AMR is a threat to humans, animals, plants and the environment. It affects us all. That is why this

year’s theme calls for cross-sectoral collaboration to preserve the efficacy of antimicrobials. To effectively reduce AMR, all sectors must use antimicrobials prudently and appropriately, and take preventive measures to decrease the incidence of infections.

The 3rd Annual Global Media Forum is being organised to support media understanding and communications on antimicrobial resistance. People from global media community, including those from news wires, print, electronic, online, bloggers, social media influencers, freelancers, among others, are welcome.

Simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, French and Spanish languages will be available.
