“Improving surveillance and early detection of Foot and mouth And Similar Transboundary animal diseases (FAST} in the Middle East sub-region”

Dear Colleagues,

The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD) is pleased to confirm your participation in the upcoming Virtual workshop on “Improving surveillance and early detection of Foot and mouth And Similar Transboundary animal diseases (FAST) in the Middle East sub-region”.

This v-workshop has been organized in preparation for the REPIVET-RELABSA workshop that has been postponed due to Covid-19. The workshop will allow you to receive training material, participate in online meetings with other countries and experts.

The v-workshop has the aim of improving the surveillance of Foot and mouth And Similar Transboundary animal diseases (FAST) in the Middle East with the following objectives:

  • Improve skills for designing integrated surveillance for FAST diseases early detection and case finding in high-risk areas;
    * Scrutinize the support that epidemiology and laboratory networks, and training schemes, can provide to assist the surveillance design skills improvement;
    * Define Risk-Based surveillance for multiple diseases that can be implemented in different countries
    * Promote the creation of a regional framework for vaccination advisory group for FAST diseases in the region.

The following topics will be covered during the workshop:

  1. Introduction to animal disease surveillance;
  2.  Surveillance options;
  3.  Diagnostic tests;
  4. Measuring diseases in populations;
  5. risk-based surveillance.
Online opening

The v-workshop will begin with a live interactive meeting which will be held at 11:00 CET on Tuesday 24 March. We will send instructions on how to join the meeting in a subsequent message.

The Methodology of the v-workshop

The v-workshop will be conducted over three weeks, starting on 24th March. Each week will include a combination of recorded presentations, supported materials and assignments, which you can complete in your own time.
We invite you to work in groups with the other participants in your country.

The tutors will provide support to participants through an online discussion forum and individual feedback to participants. By the end of this workshop, you are invited to nominate a representative per each country to present the outputs of the assignments through an online meeting. The attendance to this event and the results of the assignments will be considered as a requirement to participate in follow-up activities that will be planned.

The workshop will be assisted by the expertise of Nick Lyons, Kees Van Maanen, Giancarlo Ferrari, Omid NekoueiJahromi, Mattia Begovoeva, Shahin Baiomy.

Starting the course

Following the on line opening on the 24th March, you will receive login details for our EuFMD e-learning website, along with full instructions on how to log in. You do not need to make any preparations now.
