The Sub-Regional Representation for Arabian Gulf webinar: Strengthening HPAI control & preparedness

Header

The identification of HPAI by GF-TADs as a priority disease with pandemic potential and considering the recent epidemic wave characterised by a high number of detections, particularly among wild birds compared to previous years, has highlighted the critical importance of fostering understanding and achieving effective implementation of the HPAI Prevention and Control Global Strategy (2024–2033), in line with the recommendations of the previous regional workshop held in Amman in September 2025.

The main purpose of the webinar, as outlined by Dr Gounalan Pavade in his presentation, was to contribute to strengthening the readiness and preparedness of veterinary authorities in the region and to provide a better understanding of the principal objectives and implementation requirements of the Global Strategy. In addition, the webinar aimed to emphasise the importance of effective global and regional coordination in order to update and improve national and regional action plans, while fostering the operationalisation of One Health-based multisectoral control coordination, alongside stringent biosecurity and protection measures across poultry value chains, to enhance the region’s capabilities in reducing the disease burden and mitigating its devastating consequences.
