As a flagship programme of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the PVS Pathway is an independent, country-driven, stage-by-stage process for sustainable planning and continuous improvement of a Member’s Veterinary Services (VS) in compliance with the WOAH’s International Standards on the quality of VS.
Cyclical in nature, the four stages of the PVS Pathway correspond to specific capacity-building activities and methods to evaluate, plan, cost and support the strengthening of national VS in a wide range of components covering the entire veterinary domain, including workforce evaluation and development, disease prevention and control capabilities, diagnosis and laboratory networks, economic and legal assessments, One Health integration and Public-Private Partnerships.
As the first stage of the PVS Pathway Cycle, Orientation consists of training for Members to improve the preparation and conduct of PVS Pathway missions, higher quality reports, and most significantly, effective use of those reports to source funding and drive change to strengthen Veterinary Services. The level of national understanding, ownership and engagement of the VS in their PVS Pathway are key determinants of success.
A PVS Pathway Regional Orientation Training Workshop for the Middle East will be held in Amman, Jordan, between 6 and 9 February 2023.
This training workshop will target a selection of representatives of the VS of WOAH’s Members in the Middle East Region. The training will have two components: an on-line training phase consisting of three preparatory modules on discovering WOAH, WOAH Intergovernmental Standards and Quality of Veterinary Services; and a physical workshop with incorporating theory, practical and planning aspects to prepare countries for future PVS Pathway engagement tailored to their needs.
The workshop aims to:
This workshop will be funded by the “Building resilience against agro-crime and agro-terrorism” joint WOAH-FAO-INTERPOL project supported by the Weapons Threat Reduction Programme (WTRP) of Global Affairs Canada.
