Facilitation of temporary international horse movement’ for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jordan and Syria

WOAH, IHSC and WEQAA are organising a workshop focused on facilitating the international movement of competition horses between GCC countries. The workshop was also supported by the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation and the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia. The workshop aims to strengthen regional cooperation and establish more efficient protocols for the movement of high-health, high-performance horses, supporting the Middle East’s prominent position in international horseracing and equestrian sports.

Key Objectives:

• Identifying current obstacles to the cross-border movement of competition horses
• Presenting the WOAH-IHSC tools, including the Equine Disease-Free Zone and HHP frameworks
• Exploring technological advancements such as digital passports and ATA carnets
• Developing harmonised health certificates for temporary horse movement
• Establishing updated roadmaps for regional horse movement

• Veterinary Services representatives from GCC countries, Jordan and Syria
• FEI National Federation representatives
• National Racing Authorities from the region
