In 2019, two workshops on OIE Standards and procedures to facilitate the international movement of (competition) horses, including presentations of the international code chapters on the recognition and Maintenance of African horse sickness (AHS) official free status, and the self-declaration of Equine Diseases. These workshops were held respectively in Rabat-Morocco and in Beirut- Lebanon. They were attended by participants, from Veterinary Services, equestrian federations, and horse racing authorities.
Specific roadmaps have been recommended to be implemented by the concerned parties to facilitate the movement of horses, especially sport horses, in a safer and secure way.
A third workshop, to follow up on the progress made by countries in consideration of the recommendations of the previous meetings, was held virtually on 10th & 11th May 2022.
The Veterinary Authorities of Members and the Equestrian Federations and racing agencies from the region, working together following the OIE recommendations and guidelines towards the facilitation of movement of competition horses and the enhancement of HHP health status recognition. Coordination and harmonization of import/export measures and equine health certification. OIE and the sports federations to support the development and implementation of the roadmaps in the region to facilitate the movement of competition horses in a safer and secure means.
Veterinary Authorities, and horse sport organizations, in the FEI Group VII countries, (especially those attending the previous meetings): Algeria, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, PAT, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
